You're Still Becoming
This chapter is inviting you to become someone you've never had the chance to be before
The other day I found myself looking through old photo albums. . .
. . .As I turned the pages, I smiled. There I was in my twenties with my whole life stretching out in front of me! These were the years of raising my family, birthday parties, vacations, holidays, school events - and all of the ordinary moments that somehow become the memories we treasure most.
Each picture captured a different season of my life. A different version of me.
As I looked at those versions of me and I felt such gratitude.
Some of those seasons were not easy. A young mother trying to figure everything out in a time without the technology of today to help. And then there were those seasons that were so fun and fulfilling - however it wasn’t that I would want to go back.
I smiled because I have come to realize that every one of those versions of me gave something to the woman I am today.
Each season shaped me in ways I couldn’t have understood while I was living it.
The joyful years, the painful years, the years when life made perfect sense - and the years when everything seemed to change overnight. They all became part of me.
Over the years one of the deepest truths I’ve come to believe is that:
Life isn’t asking us to go backward. It’s always inviting us forward.
I think so many women unknowingly carry the belief that if they could just get back to who they used to be, everything would feel better again.
I understand why. There are seasons of life we remember with such fondness. Seasons when our children were little, when our parents were still here, when our marriages felt secure or when life simply felt more familiar.
And as much as I’ve cherished those memories - I wouldn’t want to live them again. They already served their purpose. They helped shape me into the woman I am today.
And I’m still becoming.
After everything life has taught me, after all the unexpected turns, the heartbreaks, the healing, the learning and the growth, I don’t believe the best version of me is somewhere behind me.
I believe she’s still unfolding.
It’s why I don’t see this season of life as something to survive. I don’t see this season of life as the best years are behind me. Or that I have one foot in the grave.
I see it as an invitation.
An invitation to become more intentional. More present. More authentic. More willing to let go of the expectations I carried for so long and step into a life that feels more aligned with the woman I’ve become and am still becoming. It’s an evolution.
When I talk about living more vibrantly, this is what I mean.
It’s waking up to the realization that everything we’ve lived has prepared us for this chapter. Not to repeat the past instead to create something even richer because of it.
I’ve seen this happen in my own life and I’ve watched it happen in the lives of so many women I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside over the years.
I’ve noticed that it rarely happens all at once. Instead it begins with one small shift in the way we see ourselves. We stop measuring our lives by who we used to be. We begin appreciating who we’ve become.
And then gradually we start making decisions that reflect that woman. . .
. . . She who begins to speak up a little more. Who starts to trust herself a little more. Who stops apologizing for taking up time in her own life.
The one who now is more curious than fearful about what’s ahead.
That version who finally stopped looking behind for permission to move forward.
When I closed those photo albums, I felt nostalgic AND I felt grateful. Grateful for every version of me that carried me this far! And genuinely excited to meet the woman I’m still becoming.
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned after all these years, it’s this:
The second half of life isn’t about being less. It’s about becoming more of everything your life has been preparing you to be.
And that’s why I believe, with all my heart, that the best chapters don’t have to be the ones we’ve already lived.
They can be the ones we’re courageous enough to create next.
So here's to growing forward... one experience, one choice, one beautiful new discovery at a time. I hope you'll come along for the journey.
Here's to you making your second half the best half.
Until next time ~
Live life vibrantly,
